THE BALANCE OF OPPOSITES

Inauguration Saturday 15 September 2018 from 17.00
18 September – 10 October 2018
from Tuesday to Friday 15.00 – 18.00

Artesilva gallery takes up the exhibition season with a solo exhibition by the German artist Karin Radoy. In her research, the painting blends with the support material in a single aesthetic construction with geometric characteristics: the work is the support, without differences between the image and the background, the work and the material.
In Radoy’s work, the repetition of the same sign, sometimes reversed or modified, designed as a diptych, produces dynamic tensions based on the idea of dualism.
Radoy takes note of this duality and returns it to us without filters, creating works in which, on the one hand, an element interferes with the vision of the other, on the other side one without the other would be affected because the composition balance would fail. The two elements, in fact, could not exist individually because they would be deprived of their strength: on the contrary, together they create contrasts that make them perfectly imperfect.
The relationship between the two elements of the diptych is enhanced by their interaction with the background on which they are located, in a play of shadows that varies according to the source of light.

These structures are made of MDF (medium density fiberboard), a derivative of wood used above all in the realization of furnishings. It therefore has an industrial use. What emerges, however, is an extreme delicacy and femininity: Radoy, in fact, works this material making it extremely sensual in shape.
