Biography
Pierantonio Verga was born in Milan in 1947. He approaches to art thanks to his teacher Lucio Fontana, from who he learns that “when we paint, our last worry should be the painting, the first must be the world”; so an artist doesn’t have to learn how to paint but to ask himself about the world. And that world enters sweetly and, at the same time, impetuously in Verga’s drawings: he both represents an intimate space, delicate figures and strong colors, full of matter, speaking of life and experiences.
During the years, his painting has grown up, removing the excesses and showing his fundamental elements based on the couples color-matter and sign-shape.
The artist has shown his works in solo and groups exhibitions from 1966; he also won several awards: Bice Bugatti Award (1979); Giovanni Segantini Award (1980); Giussano Award (1980); Seregno Award (1980); Cassa Rurale di Carate Brianza Award (1980); Fondazione Durini Award (1991).
He teached Painting at Aldo Galli Academy of Fine Arts of Como from 1992. He was also commissioned for public artworks: an altarpiece for the chapel of Istituto delle Missioni Estere of Desio in 1977; a wall painting for SS. Pietro e Paolo Church in Desio in 1980; a fresco for San Carlo Church in Seveso in 1985; a wall painting for the City Hall of Luino in 1998. In 2006 he realizes a fresco for Sant’Anselmo Church in Milan.
He died in Vimercate in 2015.
